Posted on: 2007-08-02

The late Mr. Danny Whyte, Founder and Executive Director of DWIB Leukaemia Trust has been laid to rest, Friday 20th July 2007, at Osu Cemetery, Accra, Ghana.
At Danny’s request, as a symbol of a celebration of life, the dress code for all occasions was white and the funeral events commenced with a vigil at the Aviation Centre in Accra, 19th July 2007. During the course of the evening, following a speech from DWIB Trustee Mr Ken Brookman – Amissah, guests observed two minutes candlelit silence, a leukaemia presentation from medical students from the University of Ghana and music from a live band.
Sympathisers gathered early Friday morning for the memorial service at Ridge Church, Accra, where Danny was laid in state. Tributes were delivered by Danny’s mother, uncle, sisters, children and representatives from DWIB UK and DWIB Ghana. The service was honoured by the Ghana Police Band and the Winneba Youth Choir and His Excellency President J A Kufuor made a special appearance to also pay his respects.
DWIB and sympathisers gathered at Ridge Church, following the burial at Osu Cemetery, for refreshments. Both Thursday and Friday’s venues were adorned with a billboard showing a picture of Danny with the caption “In Honour and Loving Memory of Danny Whyte, Leukaemia Crusader”.
The Thanksgiving Service took place on Sunday, 22nd July 2007, again, at Ridge Church, Accra.
DWIB Leukaemia Trust would like to thank everyone for the support, shown to us over this period. We again wish to affirm our determination to continue with the invaluable work that Danny lived for and call on all of you for your continued support.
